Winner "Best English Language Bulletin" in District 3450, 2001/2002

This Week's Meeting:

Our speaker this week is Mr. David Osborne on the topic "Looking for a sign".

David Osborne is founder and managing director of graphia|BRANDS, Asia's leading design consultancy for environmental graphics and spatial branding.

In what promises to be an illuminating lecture, David will expose the urban myths that attempt to link clients, projects and common sense, and provide definitive proof that the art of wayfinding never stood a chance in the cold of commercial daylight. Alternatively he will demonstrate that, given a decent wayfinding system, the three wise men could have shaved 17 hours off their journey and arrived on Christmas Eve in time for egg nog and mince pies.

Milestones:

There are no KGM members celebrating birthdays, Mark 6 wins, divorces or other such occasions this week. Boring.

Annual General Meeting:

KGM Club Secretary David "Party Dude" Harilela has given notice that the next AGM for the Club and the Company will take place during our regular club meeting on Wednesday 18 December 2002 at the Holiday Inn Golden Mile.

At this time, the election of Directors to serve on the incoming Board, who assume office on 1 July 2003, will take place.

Fellowship News:

Our old mate KGM Fellowship Director Miranda "King" Kong has announced our December fellowship will be a "Beef, Boogie & By-pass" night from 7:15 p.m. to 10:15 p.m. on Saturday 21 December 2002, at JJ's Grill at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, Wanchai North.

The price is only $320 per head, and this gets you an impressive selection of appetisers, grilled main courses and very fattening desserts, all washed down by copious amounts of beverages including beer, wine and hooch. After dinner, you can make a complete fool of yourself on the dance floor as you attempt to replicate your dancing skills from your youth, if you ever had any. Paramedics will be standing-by.

Members interested in attending this event should contact Miranda by email or on telephone 9199 3077.

Fund-Raising KGM Polio Plus Cookbook:

Our sweet and elegant President-Elect Patricia "Iron Lady" Blair (of the Blair Witch Project), and her faithful side-kick Sonya "Woo-Hoo" Wu (of the Wu Tang Clan), are actively promoting our new & improved KGM cookbook entitled "Dining In with Great Chefs of Hong Kong".

The price is only HK$188 per copy and an image of the cover has been uploaded to the KGM website.

Recipes, contributed by Hong Kong's leading chefs, include world renown exotic dishes such as "Fromage Sur Le Toast", "Filet Mignon Vache Fâchée", "Le Poisson et Pomme de Terre Anglais" and "Le Haagen-Daz Avec Le Sauce Chocolat".

For more information, contact Lady Patricia on telephone 9312 3606 or by email.

By the way, KGM can now accept online payments by major credit card through PayPal. Please tell your friends in Hong Kong and overseas about this new facility, in order to assist sales of the cook book in support of our Polio Plus fund-raising activities.

Community Service News:

KGM Community Service Director Diana Chou announces that she has organised a visit to the Nam Long Hospice, 30 Nam Long Shan Road, Aberdeen at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday 21 December 2002.

The purpose of the visit is to bring some Christmas cheer and gifts to terminally ill patients living out their final days. Entertainment such as Chinese Opera and a magic show have been arranged, and volunteers will also give patients hand and feet massages.

Bringing some warm and laughter to the patients will be a wonderful Christmas gesture and Diana hopes KGM members will be willing to give up a few hours of their time to support this worthwhile "hands-on" project.

As Diana is currently travelling, members willing to lend their support should contact Elissa Cohen by email.

Who Am I?:

What is the more common name of USA based, Cuban actor Andres Arturo Garcia-Menendez?.

The answer appears at the bottom of this issue.

Click Da Geek:

Are you sexually adventurous or is your idea of being "wild 'n' crazy" mean getting rumpy-bumpy on a Tuesday night when it's not your birthday? Whatever, and I really don't want to know.

However on the off chance you're a thrill seeker (and you have a good back), why not join the Mile High Club? No, you won't get many frequent flyer points but you'll certainly Fly United, regardless of which airline you're taking.

Golden Smile:

Sam and Susie are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary, and Sam asks his wife: "Susie, in our 50 years of marriage, have you ever cheated on me?

She says, "In all honesty I must confess that I did, but I only cheated three times but each time was for very good reason".

Sam was shocked but he said to his wife, "Three? Well, what were the good reasons?"

Susie replied, "Well, Sam, remember when you were 35 years old and you really wanted to start your own business, but no bank would give you a loan? Then remember one day the bank president himself came over the house and signed the loan papers, no questions asked?"

He says, "Oh, Susie, I love that you did that for me. I respect you even more than ever, to do such a thing for me. So, when was the second time?"

She says, "Well, Sam, remember when you had that massive heart attack and you needed a very tricky and expensive operation, but no surgeon would touch you? Then remember how Dr. Jones came all the way up here, to do the surgery himself, and then you were in good shape again?"

He says, "I can't believe it, Susie, that you should do such a thing for me, to save my life. I couldn't have a more wonderful wife. You must really love me, darling. I couldn't be more moved. So, all right then, when was the third time?"

She says, "Well, Sam, remember a few years ago, when you really wanted to be president of the golf club and you were 29 votes short?"
