Duties of the
Vice-President/Club Service Director
|
The Vice-President of the club has two separate, but equally important, roles to fill. The first role is serving as "Second-In-Command" of the club and the Board of Directors. In the absence of the President, the Vice-President assumes all of his duties and responsibilities. This includes running regular club meetings, serving as Chairman of Board of Director's meetings, representing the club at District and International level and so on. Hence it is imperative that the Vice-President be continually appraised of all matters pertaining to the club. Note that while the President-Elect is often given an opportunity to "practice" running meetings, in the absence of the club president, the authority and responsibility to do so remains at all times with the Vice-President, who decides whether to assume these roles personally or to offer them to the President-Elect. The second role of the Vice-President is to serve in the capacity of "Executive Officer". In KGM terms, this means serving as Club Service Director, thereby heading one of Rotary International's four "Avenues of Service". The Vice-President is responsible overall for the activities of the Club Service committee, which is comprised of the Attendance, Bulletin, Fellowship, Membership, Programme and Rotary Information sub-committees, each of which is headed by a club Director. At monthly Board of Director's meetings, the Vice-President is required, in the absence of any of his sub-committee Directors, to present the remainder of the Board with the relevant reports. The Vice-President is also expected to be an "ex-officio" member of each of the sub-committees under his care, because they are intrinsically intertwined. ~~~~~~~~~~~~
