What is a Rotaract Club?:

Rotaract is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young men and women ages 18 to 30. Rotaract clubs can be either community or university-based, and are sponsored by local Rotary clubs. The Rotaract Club of Kowloon Golden Mile is community based.

In addition to undertaking projects to assist their local communities and to advance international understanding, Rotaractors, as club members are usually called, also engage in activities related to professional development and leadership training. 

Brief Report On District Level Activities:

1) During World Rotaract Week from 12-18 March 2001, our club was a host club. The theme of this year's event was to arouse public awareness concerning "Spina Bifida", the most frequently occurring, permanently disabling birth defect in the world. 

We helped coordinate a broad based street level/office level awareness campaign on 11 March 2001. Over one hundred (100) Rotaractors and RYLA members participated in this campaign, which is a successful and ongoing project.


2) At the 2001 RYLA event, two of our members were appointed core group leaders who were responsible for leading over 20 RYLA members to undergo training and practice. This included three events: an orientation night on 8 February 2001 at the City University, a training camp on 17-18 February 2001 at Pak Po Lei Camp Site and a Review Workshop on 11 March 2001 at the University of Hong Kong.

At both the Rotaract District Conference on 24 September 2001 at Fanling, and at the Rotaract District Assembly on 1 April 2001 held in Macau, six of our members participated in the meeting and assisted with training sessions.

Brief Report On Club Level Activities:

1. A training camp was held on 11-12 November 2001 in partnership with the Rotaract Club of City University. The purpose was to create self-awareness and to unleash the leadership potential of delegates, comprised of over 40 youngsters.
   

2. A Hunter Training Camp was held on 10 February 2001 in partnership with the Rotaract Club of City University. The purpose was to experience the lifestyle of the ???.
   

3. An ongoing "Mentorship Program", established last year, continues to operate. The aim is to enhance the relationship between Rotarians and Rotaractors.
   

4. We arranged a visit to an elderly home in Tuen Mun in March 2001. This was to promote the importance of a healthy diet and exercise. Discussion, games and sharing were held.
   

5. We also arranged a visit to the elderly who live alone in Chuk Yuen South Estate during the months of both March and April, and this project was undertaken in partnership with the Rotaract Club of the University of Hong Kong.
